          LYLE PHILLIPS   2006 season

The 2006 FIRA season was my first ever try behind a real race car steering wheel. I come from a long line of  drivers, my dad (Lyle Phillips Jr.) raced for several years around Wisconsin and at Rockford Speedway winning a few championships along the way. His life was cut short by cancer in 1988.   My uncle David also raced those same tracks winning championships. My brother Craig is a very successful driver in the Midwest Enduro Series winning 2 races in his first year and  a half.  His latest being at the Milwaukee Mile!  He races against 40 plus cars for as many as 300 laps. I also have two cousins that race one at Slinger in the super late division (Tommy Pecaro) and one at Jefferson in the bandit division

Hi race fans!  My name is Lyle Phillips, I drive the #35 car owned by Jeff Tomashek.  2007 will be our 3nd season racing with FIRA.  In 2005 we only competed in 6 events. We were the only car to run a 440cc engine , all of our competitors ran either 600cc snowmobile engines or 750cc motorcycle engines.  Our top finish of the year was a 3rd at the little car nationals at Lake Geneva Raceway.  We ended the year 2005 8th in the final point standings.  Which we were really happy with!  For 2007 we are moving up with a 600cc Polaris snowmobile engine.  Jeff said “this year we’re going to win some races”.  I’m sure going to race the wheels off to prove him right!!  This series is such a blast to race!  Very clean racing and a lot of willingness from all of the competitors to help each other out in the pits.  Very inexpensive when compared to other types of racing.  You can find used cars, race ready from $2500 on up.  Your tires last a very long time, we only bought 2 last year the other 2 were on the car when Jeff bought it.  We run regular gas in it, no high dollar racing fuel.  If you are at all interested contact the Webmaster Wally Reitz, He is also our president.  FIRA's website is       www.formulaindyracing.com.     Thanks for checking us out. s out, wish us luck in 2007!

The car is owned by Jeff Tomashek. Jeff was involved in the NASCAR Winston All Pro Series for over 20 years, both as a driver and as an owner.    Jeff was friends with    very well known  Indy car driver Stan Fox.  They attended Saint John's Military Academy together when they were teenagers and kept in touch until Stan's tragic death.
